An insider view of Fixed Wireless internet, Australia
Our recent interview with Zack Baala an industry insider and internet entrepreneur shared his views on internet technologies used in Australia. And mentions slow roll out of NBN has opened big opportunity for Fixed Wireless internet in markets especially like Australia.
Fixed wireless internet has been around for about ten years. With this type of internet, your provider will install a receiver on your property. It will communicate with the nearest wireless base station and offer you access to the web via a cable carrying the broadband signal from the receiver to the router in your property.
Fixed wireless internet is being used in cities and rural areas as setting up the infrastructure for broadband services like DSL is prohibitively expensive. Transporting and burying cables in the ground and getting the necessary permits can be expensive. So it doesn’t make financial sense for service providers to go down this road in less populated areas, where they can’t get enough subscribers on board to justify the total costs.
A base station used for fixed wireless internet is about as tall as an average cell phone tower. It’s usually located within 15kms of your property, so the clouds above it and the storm that’s miles away won’t interfere with the signal it’s transmitting.
To set up fixed wireless, there needs to be a line of sight between the receiver on your property and the wireless base station. Obstructions such as trees and hills can affect the quality of the service and can even prevent it from being set up.
Fixed wireless in CBD and city limit is very good due to the shorter base station range. And subscribers from suburbs will be able to receive slower internet plans like 12 Mbps, this is pretty fast for a wireless connection.. However, they will receive stable internet as advertised. Speed is more than enough for the average user – If your main activities on the Internet are surfing, researching, watching videos and engaging in social media, you would not have any problems with NBN’s fixed wireless.
Thinking of opting for fixed wireless internet? If so, you’ll be happy to hear that there are many providers to choose from in Australia.
Businesses and residential subscribers are certainly discovering that fixed wireless internet connection offers several cost benefits when it comes to fulfilling the broadband needs of one or more users. Instead of relying on wired connections, a best wireless internet provider delivers the service by deploying radio waves from a nearby wireless tower to fixed antennae at the subscribers place.
